As part of the NIH’s workplace violence prevention
program, the NIH Police recently posted a new video on their website titled,
"Flashpoint." This approximately 20-minute video focuses on how
employees can recognize signs prior to any physical violence taking place and
strategies for diffusing these situations.

If organizations would like more information, the Office
of Management is now offering a 1.5 hour presentation on "NIH Safety and
Security" to the entire NIH community, available upon request. The
training includes information from the following resources:

– to address matters pertaining to the prevention of violence in the
workplace.
The Division of Emergency Preparedness and Coordination
(DEPC), Office of Research Services (ORS) (http://www.ors.od.nih.gov/ser/depc)
– to address emergency alert notification, as well as evacuation and
shelter-in-place procedures.
NIH Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Division of
Occupational Health and Safety, ORS (http://www.ors.od.nih.gov/sr/dohs/EAP) -- provides personalized consultation, short-term counseling, referral and
follow-up services to enhance personal and professional wellbeing; EAP offers
comprehensive support to help individuals and organizations move effectively
through crisis situations.
The Division of Police, ORS (http://www.ors.od.nih.gov/ser/dp/Pages/default.aspx)
– to address security and safety tips in the event of an active shooter
scenario.
