These evaluations explore the physical demands and environmental hazards of an applicant’s proposed position. The OMS healthcare provider reviews the individual’s personal medical and immunization history to determine whether the worker can assume the duties of the position. The OMS staff provides work-related health and safety advice, administers appropriate vaccines, and enrolls the individual in applicable OMS surveillance programs.
Pre-placement medical evaluations are recommended for individuals whose work involves:
Possible exposure to human body fluids,
Potential contact with human pathogens, or
Work in an area that is used for clinical care.
For new employees and those switching duties, a pre-placement medical exam is initiated when the Human Resource Specialist submits forms NIH 750-2 “Request for Medical Determination and Report of Findings”, and 750-3 “Medical Qualification Determination Questionnaire” to the employee’s Supervisor or Administrative Officer, for completion. The Supervisor or Administrative Officer forwards the forms to OMS, who will contact the employee and set up an appointment.
