The goal of the Occupational Medical Service (OMS) is to enhance the health and safety of the NIH workforce through the provision of a variety of work-related medical and counseling services. OMS services are designed in close collaboration with DOHS safety professionals and researchers to meet the unique needs of the NIH biomedical research community.
The programs that are managed by the OMS for support of the NIH include:
- Work-related medical emergencies
- Routine medical care
- Desensitization injections
- Health promotion programs
- Immunizations
- Medical clearance for respirator use
- Medical support for work-related international travel
- Pre-placement medical evaluations
- Return to work evaluations
- Review of medical records
- Surveillance programs
- Employee Assistance Program
- CPR training
- Workers' compensation
