Bike to Work Day - May 19

Bike to Work Day - Friday, May 19

7:00 AM – 9:30 AM; Opening remarks at 8:00 AM.

NIH Bethesda Campus (in front of Building 1) and other area locations.

Celebrate National Bike Month and Bike to Work Day with the NIH Bicycle Commuter Club (NIHBCC) and the Office of Research Services (ORS), Division of Amenities and Transportation Services (DATS). Join us – rain or shine – in this national salute to bicycling as an environmentally friendly, fun, and healthy way to get to work. Opening remarks begin at 8:00 AM in front of Building 1, followed by the presentation of the Carl Henn Bicycling Advocacy Award. This award is in memory of Carl Henn, a former NIH employee who was very active with the NIHBCC and our community.

Get inspired by our very own NIH Director, Dr. Francis Collins, a fellow bike commuter, and learn about the benefits of biking to work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTW1R4SWY48.

Registration for this event is free. Simply visit: http://www.biketoworkmetrodc.org/. Enter your employer as "National Institutes of Health" and help NIH defend our proud title as the employer with the most Bike to Work Day participants.

The NIH will host one and participate in two additional pit stops of the 85 pit stops in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, supported by the Washington Area Bicyclists Association (WABA). When registering, please select your pit stop. The three NIH-affiliated pits stops are:

(1) NIH Building 1 from 7:00 AM – 9:30 AM.

(2) Rock Springs Business Park (Marriott HQ) from 6:30 AM – 9:00 AM.

(3) Rockville-Fallsgrove (near NCI Shady Grove) from 6:30 AM – 8:30 AM.

At the NIH pit stop, NIH staff who show up riding a bicycle and wearing a helmet may enjoy breakfast snacks and participate in a raffle, sponsored by the Recreation and Welfare Association (R&W) and NIHBCC. Registrants can also pick up a free Bike to Work Day T-shirt at their selected pit stop (available while supplies last).
