This one-day course provides personnel with the knowledge and certification to be a shipper of infectious substances and diagnostic specimens. A general awareness of existing regulations for the transportation of Dangerous Goods as specified in the Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR) is provided. As most infectious substances and diagnostic specimens are shipped by air, the more restrictive air transport regulations will be the focus of the course. The course will use, as its core reference, the current edition of the International Air Transport Association Dangerous Goods Regulations (IATA DGR).
* A comprehensive exam is given at the end of the course. Certificates are only issued upon successful completion of the exam by each participant.
Course materials include a classroom manual with pertinent references from the current 49 CFR and the IATA DGR. These classes are being offered at no charge by the Division of Occupational Health and Safety (DOHS), Office of Research Services.
Additional course sessions will be scheduled at a later date.
