Center Drive/Old Georgetown Road Reduced Access from January 2 to February 22 for Construction

The NIH will continue with the replacement of vehicle barriers, with work beginning on the next entrance/exit at Center Drive/Old Georgetown Road beginning on January 2. This work will require the entrance to have restricted access from Wednesday, January 2 through Friday, February 22. To offset the traffic impact, the campus entrance/exit at South Drive/Old Georgetown Road will have expanded hours of operation in both directions.

The construction will be conducted in two major phases. During the first phase, Center Drive will be available for outbound traffic only. During the second phase, Center Drive will be available for inbound traffic only.

Phase 1: 1/2/19 – 1/25/19

* Outbound traffic only (5am – 9pm, Monday – Friday; closed on weekends); No inbound traffic.
* South Drive/Old Georgetown Road Expanded Hours: inbound and outbound – weekdays, 5am – 9pm; weekends/holidays 6am – 4pm.
* No pedestrian access (use gates to north and south).

Phase 2: 1/26/19 – 2/22/19

* Inbound traffic only (5am – 9pm, Monday – Friday; Closed on weekends); No outbound traffic.
* South Drive/Old Georgetown Road Expanded Hours: inbound and outbound – weekdays, 5am – 9pm; weekends/holidays 6am – 4pm.
* Normal pedestrian access.

A chain link fence will be used to enclose the construction site. Signage on nearby roadways will be posted alerting commuters of this construction. Signage and cones will direct traffic entering and exiting Center Drive during construction.

While Center Drive is under construction, motorists are encouraged to consider using either of the two other entrances to campus located along Old Georgetown Road including South Drive and Lincoln Drive.
