Gate Restrictions at Walter Reed Could Disrupt Traffic Around NIH
Due to increased security measures at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), restrictions on the number of open gates could mean backups for NIH employees, shuttles and visitors on Rockville Pike/355 and the surrounding area.
The gate restrictions are in place until further notice.
The NIH recommends allowing additional time to get on and off campus and to consider using entrances and exits on Old Georgetown Road when convenient. The most likely impact to NIH staff should be during the early morning rush period for vehicles accessing campus from Rockville Pike/355.
Before arriving to or leaving work, consider checking the traffic.nih.gov website (https://traffic.nih.gov). The site provides links to live traffic cameras in and around the main campus, Bethesda and the entire Montgomery County area. There are other useful links to WTOP Radio and the Montgomery County Department of Transportation and State of Maryland traffic cameras to help with your commute.
