Government-Issued Cell Phones to be Entered into NED
On Wednesday, September 9, 2020, all government-issued cell phone numbers will be entered into the NIH Enterprise Directory (NED). All numbers added will have the "Do Not Publish" option checked by default. This means that the numbers WILL NOT be published to the Global Address List (GAL) or the public-facing NED website, but will begin receiving AlertNIH emergency notifications.
Only government-issued cell phone numbers that are not currently in NED will be updated. Additionally, staff using their personal cell phones to access the NIH network through an approved app will not have their cell phone numbers added.
Staff are encouraged to log into the NED Portal (https://nedportal.nih.gov) to verify their contact information. If you cannot access the NED Portal, your Administrative Officer can access and modify your information on your behalf.
This action is being completed in accordance with NIH Manual Chapter 0002 - NIH Mobile Device Policy, which states that "All government furnished mobile devices that include phone capabilities shall have the phone number maintained in the NIH Enterprise Directory for emergency alert (AlertNIH) notifications."
The full Manual Chapter can be found at https://policymanual.nih.gov/0002.
