A section of Cedar Lane, immediately east of Rockville
Pike (Maryland 355) will close for major construction work beginning Friday,
June 6 until August 22, 2014 to facilitate long planned roadway improvements.
While closed to motorists, it shall remain open to cyclists and pedestrians.

The construction is part of a larger project to make
urgently needed improvements to the intersection of Rockville Pike at Cedar
Lane. Once this portion of the work is complete, the intersection will include
a new, dedicated right turn lane for northbound Rockville Pike traffic, a
relocated entrance to Stone Ridge school and replacement of underground
Some suggested detour routes include:
- Northbound: Rockville Pike to Strathmore Avenue, east
to Summit Avenue, south to Cedar Lane
- Southbound: Rockville Pike to Jones Bridge Road, east
to Connecticut Avenue North, to Beach Drive west, to Cedar Lane (east or west)

The Route 34 Ride On bus that serves Cedar Lane will
follow the same detour route that was used during the Summer 2011 bridge

Also, the hiker/biker trail near the intersection of
Wilson Drive and Rockville Pike, previously closed due to construction, has
reopened for bicycle and pedestrian use.
