A section of Service Road West, the north/south road between Buildings 11 and 34, will be closed starting tomorrow, March 15 through April 19 for emergency replacement of a fuel oil pipeline under the road. To accommodate the closure, a detour route will utilize Lincoln Drive, the service road between the MLP-8 parking garage and Building 34, and Convent Drive. This detour is necessary for all traffic -- both vehicles and pedestrians -- to avoid the construction area.
For a map detailing the closed area and detour route, please visit:
The NIH will place signs at each end of the closure, alerting staff and directing them through the detour route. While Service Road West is under construction, motorists are encouraged to consider using alternate routes to navigate the southwest portion of campus. Please visit the employee campus map to view optional routes at:
The fuel oil pipeline provides supplementary fuel from underground storage tanks to the Central Utility Plant (CUP). The CUP produces steam and chilled water for numerous campus operations including air conditioning, hot water heating, medical equipment sterilization, autoclaves, animal cage and rack washing, and dishwashing.
