Celebrate National Yoga Month

September is National Yoga Month, which aims to promote the health benefits of yoga and inspire a healthy lifestyle. According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), many people who practice yoga do so to maintain their health and well-being, improve physical fitness, relieve stress, and enhance quality of life. Join the NIH Health and Wellness Council and R&W Fitness Center for a month-long series of yoga events.

Featured events this month will include:

* "Mindfulness for Beginners: How to live in the moment, reduce stress and worry less!' webinar led by Erica Chopas, MSW, LGSW. Mindfulness is a simple practice to integrate into your day-to-day routine for a better you.

* "Yoga for Lower Back Pain, the Practice & Science" by Ms. Sandra Scarbrough, M.A., M.S. Yoga Therapy, E-RYT500 and Lanay Mudd PhD. A class for those who have experienced lower back pain or others who are interested in learning how to prevent it, the class will introduce individuals to yoga poses that may reduce low-back pain and improve function. Merging the practice of yoga with science, Dr. Mudd will enlighten students about NCCIH's research on lower back pain.

* Yoga doesn't have to be confined to your mat or a studio. Bring yoga to your workspace! Join us for the "Yoga in Your Workspace" videocast where you will learn easy poses to do in your workspace and relieve stress.

* Get a peaceful start to your day by taking a sunrise yoga class held at on and off campus locations.
