The NIH will replace vehicle barriers at the North Drive entrance off of Rockville Pike (MD355) beginning Monday, December 18, 2017. This work will require the entrance to be closed to all vehicle traffic for two weeks, from December 18, 2017 through January, 1, 2018.
While North Drive is closed, motorists are encouraged to use any of the other three entrances to campus located along Rockville Pike including Wilson Drive, South Drive and Center Drive. To assist employee traffic that would normally use the North Drive entrance to access the MLP-10 garage and the northeast part of campus, East Drive will be modified to allow for northbound traffic via Wilson Drive from 6am – 10am, Monday – Friday. For all other times, East Drive will remain open to southbound traffic only, excluding deliveries to Building 33. Please be advised large trucks exiting the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Facility (CVIF) will turn left into oncoming northbound traffic so motorists electing to use this route should exercise caution.

Flag staff and signage will direct traffic entering Wilson Drive at Rockville Pike from 6am – 10pm, Monday – Friday. Although pedestrian entrances/exits will not be affected by this closure, bicyclists and pedestrians should exercise caution when using the pathway in this area. Stay on the identified pathway at all times and look for any construction debris that may create a hazard (i.e. gravel, dirt, etc.).
Additional entrances/exits are located off Old Georgetown Road at Lincoln Drive, Center Drive and South Drive. Please visit the campus map for hours of operation at: For additional resources to help with your commuting choices, visit the NIH traffic website at:
