South Drive/Rockville Pike (Metro) Entrance/Exit Closed Beginning August 6 for Construction

The NIH will replace vehicle barriers at the South Drive entrance/exit off of Rockville Pike (MD355) beginning Monday, August 6, 2018. This work will require the entrance to be closed for vehicles from August 6 through September 3, reopening on Tuesday, September 4.

Similar construction at Wilson Drive/Rockville Pike is complete and the entrance/exit is open for normal operations. To alleviate congestion, Wilson Drive will offer extended hours, remaining open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, during South Drive construction. In addition, the Center Drive/Rockville Pike hours of operation will be extended until 9pm on weekdays.

Access to the Medical Center Metro station and the NIH Gateway Center from Rockville Pike for buses, vehicles and pedestrians will not be affected. Pedestrian access on and off campus, to the metro, and the MLP-11 parking garage will also remain unchanged. NIH shuttle service and stops will remain unchanged other than riders may experience minor delays. Shuttles will continue to service stops both inside and outside the fence near the Gateway Center and metro.

A fence will enclose the construction site. Signage on nearby roadways has been posted alerting commuters of this construction. While South Drive is under construction, motorists are encouraged to use any of the other three entrances to campus located along Rockville Pike including North Drive, Wilson Drive and Center Drive along with all entrances/exits on Old Georgetown Road.
