Our primary customer is the NIH community. We also provide work for its larger HHS parent organization. MAB can help you navigate special arrangements and interagency agreements in order to utilize our excellent services.   

We offer a broad range of design and medical illustration services as well many specialized products such as poster and digital printing, custom framing, NIH awards and certificates, and campus photographs.       

Yes. MAB is a NIH fee-for-service organization. Our standard rate for design and illustration services is $75/hour. Our production products are priced per item. We are happy to provide you with an estimate for any of our services or products.        

We’re located in the NIH Clinical Center/Building 10, B2 Level, Room 103. Take the elevators outside Masur Auditorium down to level B2 and look for the blue wall.        

Yes. We offer poster printing on a variety of surfaces, including cloth! In addition we can assist you with the design and layout of your scientific poster.

Yes. When your manuscript has been accepted and you have been asked to submit a cover illustration for consideration for next month’s issue, MAB’s staff is adept at creating engaging editorial and technical cover illustrations. We have garnered a long list of award-winning cover selections in periodicals such as Nature, Science, and Cell Press.        

Not always. We typically write estimates that contain a buffer for predetermined rounds of revision. However if changes are necessary beyond what was in the original estimate, the Medical Arts Branch will keep you in the loop. Many times costs can be kept under control and delays avoided when your team knows as soon as you do about any requested changes or adjustments to your job.        

Each project is unique and turnaround times will be provided up front as a best estimate to help you meet a critical deadline. That said here are some standard production times for our products:        

  1. Scientific poster printing – 3 days
  2. Custom framing – 1 week
  3. Medical illustrations/journal figures – 1 to 2 weeks depending on complexity and number of figures
  4. Journal covers – 1 to 2 weeks however contingencies can be made for rush jobs

While most of the time we will do our best to accommodate your desire to work with a particular staff member, individual workload and availability will take precedence in assigning tasks in MAB.        

There are three options for submitting a poster printing request. Visit our Customers Service Front Office located in the NIH Clinical Center/Building 10, B2 Level, Room 103. Remember to bring your file (PDF, PPT, AI or EPS), final poster size, CAN and AO information. You can also order using our online store (see the online link on the home page). Lastly, you can e-mail files and specification to expressservices@mail.nih.gov.

No, The Medical Arts Branch does not have a photography section. Please contact Events Management Photography via their website. You can email a request to photo@mail.nih.gov or call by phone at 301.496.9993 and someone will be happy to assist you.
