AlertNIH is the official emergency notification system for the NIH community. If there is an emergency, campus closure or delay, AlertNIH can quickly send a notification to those who have signed up describing the nature of the situation and instructions on immediate actions.  Alerts may be sent by email, phone call, text message, or on the new AtHoc mobile app.

Get Connected

Register Today!

In order to receive alerts, you must provide accurate contact information in the NIH Enterprise Directory (NED). Important: Due to Privacy Act requirements, you must also opt-in to receive alerts on your personal devices and personal email. Both of these steps may be completed in the NED Portal -- instructions can be found here.

Don't have access to the NED Portal?  Download an Opt-In Form and return the completed form to your Admin Officer or Project Officer.

In addition to phone and email, NIH staff may receive alerts on the free AlertNIH mobile app--hosted by BlackBerry® AtHoc. Instructions on how to download and register the app can be found here. Please note that you must have a valid and accessible email address in NED to complete the app registration. (Use Organization Code: NIH)

Stay Informed

Some alerts may require a response or acknowledgement. You can find more information and learn how to respond to Alerts here.

In addition to AlertNIH, it is recommended that you register for alert notifications provided by local emergency management programs. Click here to learn more.
