NIH Mission First! Safety Always Award

NIH Mission First, Safety Always Emblem

The National Institutes of Health, Office of Research Services, Division of Occupational Health and Safety (DOHS) salute a group of professionals making a difference in safety. The NIH Mission First, Safety Always award was created to recognize NIH personnel who have demonstrated leadership, innovation and involvement in their organization’s safety culture.  The open period for nominations will run from 12:00 a.m., June 28, 2017 to 11:59 p.m., December 31, 2017.  Nominations submitted before and after these dates will not be considered.

Honorees will receive recognition on the Division of Occupational Health and Safety’s website, within NIH Newsletters and throughout the NIH community.​ 
 
 

All nominees will remain unidentified during the selection process. The official “NIH Mission First, Safety Always” award selection committee will evaluate nominees without IC or individual names visible.  All nominees remain unidentified during the selection process.  To find out more about nominating a colleague for the "NIH Mission First, Safety Always" award and our other contest, "In Focus! In Focus Photo Contest and "NIH Mission First, Safety Always" Accessible File

Criteria 

Nominees must demonstrate safety leadership, with practical examples in two or more of the following areas:

  1. Leadership attributes that set the nominee apart from his or her peers.

  2. Initiating and/or leading a successful safety initiative.

  3. Engaging peers and transforming the safety culture of the organization.

  4. Promoting safety as an important part of your program.

  5. Working to correct unsafe or unhealthful workplace conditions or hazards.

Guidelines

Nominations will be accepted June 28, 2017 - December 31, 2017.

  • The response to each of the two (minimum) practical examples must be 100 words or less.

  • The nominee must be an NIH employee, contractor or special government employee.

  • Nominations must come from an individual other than the person being considered.

  • Nominations submitted before and after these dates will not be considered.
