2023 NIH Mission First, Safety Always Award (MFSAA)

The National Institutes of Health, Office of Research Services, Division of Occupational Health, and Safety (DOHS) salute a group of professionals making a difference in safety. The NIH Mission First Safety Always Award was created to recognize NIH personnel who have demonstrated leadership, innovation, and involvement in their organization's safety culture.


Any NIH employee may nominate their colleague(s) for an award. Please review the guidelines carefully before submitting a nomination. Due date to submit the nominations is October 1 through December 31, 2023. 


The submission period has been extended to January 31, 2024.

 

All nominees will remain unidentified during the selection process. The official “NIH Mission First, Safety Always” award selection committee will evaluate nominees without IC or individual names visible.  All nominees remain unidentified during the selection process.  

Evaluation Process

Nominees can be any NIH employee, fellow, contractor, or special government employee. The official “NIH Mission First, Safety Always” award selection committee will evaluate nominees without IC or individual names visible.

Writing an Award Justification

As part of the online nomination form, you will be asked to submit two or more short justifications (100 words or less) to explain how the nominee meets the selection criteria, and the significance of the nominee's accomplishments and the impact it had on lab, IC and/or NIH.
