H-1B Orientation
Foreign researchers in the NIH Visiting Program, who have just arrived at the NIH in H-1B status, or who have been at the NIH and recently acquired H-1B status, should have already been registered to attend an H-1B Orientation. If you were unable to attend the orientation on your assigned date, please email DIS@mail.nih.gov to register for an available session.
Sessions run from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm on these dates:

J-1 Orientation
The
J-1 Orientation provides foreign national scientists with important information they need for their time in J-1 status at the NIH, including information on maintaining J-1 status, travel, and dependents.
New NIH-sponsored foreign national scientists in J-1 status will automatically be registered for the next J-1 Orientation after DIS processes their check-in documents. If you were unable to attend the orientation on your assigned date, please email DIS@mail.nih.gov to register for an available session.

Tax Preparation Workshop
Sprintax will host a non-resident tax orientation for NIH foreign scientists on May 21 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Learn about tax withholding, tax treaties, and nonresident tax obligations. Scientists are encouraged to attend in order to understand their state and federal tax obligations. Failure to file tax returns as required by law may result in severe financial penalties. This session will be recorded for future viewing.

Tax Orientation
Sprintax will host a non-resident tax webinar for NIH foreign scientists on March 10 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. The session will cover many core principles of non-resident taxes, including:
- Residency for tax purposes
- Federal and State tax filing obligations
- Tax withholding on payments made to you by NIH
- Important dates for tax season 2025
- Income documents you may receive for tax filing purposes
- Implications of not filing or misfiling
