Cleveland L Spruill Named New NIH Division of Police Chief

ORS Colleagues,

I am delighted to announce that Mr. Cleveland L. Spruill, Sr. has been named our new Division of Police Chief. His first day is this Monday, November 6.

Mr. Spruill comes to us from the University of the District of Columbia, where he is the Chief of Police/Public Safety Director and brings more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement. He served in Alexandria's Police Department for much of that time and held leadership positions at both the Huntersville Police Department in North Carolina and the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County in Georgia as Chief of Police. Spruill is also a United States Army veteran, having served as a U.S. Army Sergeant earlier in his career. Spruill recently relocated to the Maryland area to be closer to family.

As Division of Police Chief, Mr. Spruill will oversee the Guard Force Operations, Police Operations Branch and the Support Services Branch, which provide support to NIH's Rocky Mountain Laboratory in Montana, the Integrated Research Facility in Frederick and the Bethesda campus. His breadth of experience makes him a terrific fit for this challenging role.

My sincere appreciation goes to Deputy Chief Leslie M. Campbell for his efforts in leading the Division of Police during the prolonged candidate search. His diligence and flexibility during this time came at no small cost and his efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Please join me in welcoming Mr. Spruill as he joins our One ORS team this fall as the Division of Police Chief.

Best regards,

Colleen
