2019 Safety Health and Wellness Day Co-Sponsored by the National Institute on Aging

NIH Wellness ... "Taking Our Own Best Advice"

On June 26, 2019 the Office of Research Services, Division of Occupational Health and Safety, in partnership with the Division of Amenities and Transportation Services, will host the seventh annual NIH Safety, Health & Wellness Day.

This event will be held in Clinical Center South Complex 10:30am to 1:30pm.

All activities are open and FREE to all of NIH.

  • Fitness Assessments
  • Health Screenings
  • Fitness Classes
  • Outdoor Fitness Events
  • Demonstrations - Dance Classes, Martial Arts and Self Defense" 

   Quick Fit Assessements 11:00am to 1:30pm  South Lobby and 10/B-1 Outside

NEW this year are Quick Fit Assessments administered by certified R&W Fitness Staff.  No advance registration necessary first come first served.

Quick Fit Assessments – Include the following:

Body Weight

Body Fat

Body Mass Index (BMI)

Health Screenings Bldg 10 South Lobby
Screenings from 10:30 am - 1:00pm

Derma Scan Screening

No registration will be required - first come first served

This ultraviolet screening shows skin damage that is invisible to the naked eye. Derma scans will tell you if there is any damage or premature aging of the skin due to sun exposure. Screening results are provided in real time.

    Seated Massage and Chiropractic Massage Therapy

10 B-1 Level Outside

Seated Massages - 10/B- 1 Outside

No registration will be required - first come first served

Seated massage focuses primarily on the muscles used most during the work day including those of the head, neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands. Seated massages will be provided by Terrel Hale from Georgetown Sports Massage.

Chiropractic and Massage Therapy - 10/B-1 Outside

No registration will be required - first come first served
 
Presented by Sang's Chiropractic includes massage therapy and chiropractic assessments.
 

   Free Fitness Classes 

Classes located at 10/B-1 level outside.

No registration Necessary. Open to All.

Bar-Less Barre with Charissa (11:00am - 11:25am) - 10/B-1 outside

Who ever thought you can get a barre workout without a ballet bar?  This class will improve your balance, build strength, and increase your flexibility- great for beginners or experienced barre enthusiasts.   No equipment required!

Kickboxing with Charissa (11:30am - 11:55am) - 10/B-1 outside

Kickboxing is a fun and energizing workout. The class incorporates boxing moves such as kicks, jabs, uppercuts, and hooks to improve agility and power while burning calories. 

Bang Power Dance with Eloise  (12:00 pm - 12:25 pm) - 10/B-1 outside

BANG Power Dance™ - BANG is an urban-inspired mixed-fitness group exercise class. It’s a unique fusion of boxing, aerobics, intervals, hip hop, world dance and bodyweight training. BANG workout can be enhanced with optional 1/2 lb. weighted gloves. Jumpstart your workout with a “BANG” and take your fitness to a whole new level!

Yoga for YOU with Shannon  (12:25 pm - 12:55 pm) - 10/B-1 outside

An all levels yoga practice that will include a focus on prper body alignment, breath work and poses that strengthen muscles, improve balance and increase flexibility.

Sahara Belly Dance:  Egyptian Style with Rachel  

(1:00 pm - 1:25 pm) - 10/B-1 outside

Belly Dancing - Belly dancing is based on one of the oldest social dances in world history, originating in North Africa, Asia, and the Middle East and is enjoyed by many people all over the world. Belly dancing is both a beautiful form of dance and a great way to exercise which helps you stay in shape and allows you to express your personal creativity.  The most distinguishing feature of belly dancing is the isolated movements performed by the abdomen
