NIH Transhare Program Maximum Benefit Increased to $340

Effective January 1, 2026, the maximum monthly benefit available through the NIH Transhare Program increased from $325 to $340.

Under Section 132(f) of the Internal Revenue Code, qualified transportation fringe benefits include reimbursement for eligible commuting expenses, including:

  • Transportation in commuter highway vehicles (vanpools)
  • Transit passes

Transit benefits are typically provided as prepaid transit fare media or transit passes that can be used on eligible public transportation services, such as subway, bus, light rail, and ferry systems.

The NIH Transhare Program helps eligible employees reduce their commuting costs while supporting the use of public transportation and other sustainable commuting options.
